Anyways, we did have some success this week and that helped me get through the week and some of the struggles I went through. We met with Sister Michiel on Friday. She is a less active member who just lost her daughter to substance overdose... super sad. There is a lot of drama to the story and she actually got lied to about how it happened, but I won't share that. So we literally sat in her home for 45 min and let her express her feelings and anger. We just listened and Brother and Sister Roylance were there and they asked her some questions. Brother Roylance then shared a personal experience and looked Sister Michiel in the eyes and said "I understand how you feel and I know how hard it is... I've been there". Hearing that just helped her so much. I then shared the Brian K Taylor quote from general conference in April, and told her that no matter how angry she was at God, and no matter how hard things were... I promised her that God will never desert her and that it is not his character to do so. I said "He will Always be there". She cried and then asked me if I would give her a blessing. I can't remember what I said, but I felt the spirit so strong!! It was such an awesome experience, and one I wouldn't have if I wasn't serving a mission. One more story of success from this week:) So we met a couple last week named Rita and Jesus. They are Indonesian and speak Spanish and English haha.. really fun listening to them talk and trying to understand what they are saying. Anyways they are such good people and we have slowly been starting to teach them. They have been to church before and had a bad experience. We have really become there friends and loved them, and they are noticing that. We invited them to come to church and be baptized... They said yes to both!!! We will be teaching them the 5 lessons this week and preparing them for baptism, so please pray for Rita and Jesus this week!! They need the prayers!!! So that was my week... lots of good food, lots of biking, lots of good times, and lots of hard times. Overall it was another great week of learning and growing, and I can't wait to keep being shaped into the man God wants me to be.
Highlights of the week: Wednesday we had dinner with the Ghandis. Brother Ghandi is from india and his wife is a pastor for a church in Hemet. They are great people and I was able to learn a little more about India.
-We met a homeless lady on the street Saturday, her name was Betty. We gave her a bag of water, food, and a blanket from the apartment and a little cash!! She was so happy and said we were sent from God!
-Saturday we did a blitz in Anza for the Anaza sisters. Best part was going to dairy queen after and thats all i remember from the blitz cause we didn't talk to a single person during the blitz ha.
-Rita and Jesus came to church!!! They loved it and are preparing to be baptized!
Spiritual thought: We were with brother Fleming Monday and we were sitting in the In n out parking lot and he began to tell us a little story. It was called "Always stop at the yellow light". He said, "I always stop at yellow lights and I always teach everyone I can to stop at yellow lights". when you run yellow lights or try to beat them you always put yourself and others in danger or a situation you can't control. When you stop at the yellow light you are in control not putting your self in danger. This applies to every part of life... Every decision you make wether it's for yourself, your family, your wife, your friend, co worker or anyone else... never put yourself or them in a situation they can not control. Always "stop at the yellow light", listen to the promptings of the spirit and be in control... not that spiritual of a spiritual thought, but I thought the principle of the story was good:))) haha.
Well I'm surviving, learning and growing so much!!! I pray and think about all of you everyday and I hope you have an amazing week! Good luck to all of those taking finals and graduating from High school this week... ill keep you in my prayers!! The Church is true and I love being a missionary even though it is so hard, challenging and crazy sometimes!! It is so worth it, even if right now I can't understand all the happiness and blessings I'll receive from serving! Love you all so much! Also quick birthday shout out to The one and only Justin Hodson!! Love ya big guy and can't wait to hear about your mission experiences.
